Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Training Online
What is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness is a basic human quality, a way of learning to pay attention to whatever is happening in your life that allows you a greater sense of connection to your life inwardly and outwardly. MBSR teaches "mindfulness," which is a focus only on things happening in the present moment. Through practicing Mindfulness you get to know yourself better. You become more aware of your thoughts, emotions and bodily feelings enabling you to respond more effectively to a challenging situation through making conscious choices instead of playing out automatic reactions and patterns that are not helpful and are rather disruptive to your well-being and the relationship with others.
Origin
Mindfulness combines modern psychological insights with ancient and proven forms of meditation and yoga. Mindfulness is not tied to a specific religious context, but can be used in an easily applicable, practical way. Mindfulness is trained with the help of meditation techniques that focus on, for example, the breath or our bodily awareness. Many people who have participated in the training are saying they can make better use of their ability to deal with life's events through strength and wisdom.
Contents of the training
The training consists of eight weekly meetings. In the meetings you practice with different meditation techniques such as the body scan, sitting meditation, walking meditation and yoga. There is an opportunity to exchange observations and learnings with each other about personal experiences with the exercises. Homework is an essential part of the training. You can continue the meditation and yoga exercises at home with the help of audio files. A workbook describes various exercises for practicing attention in daily life. Experience shows that exercising at home is important for the effectiveness of the training which requires 45 minutes to an hour per day.
What learnings can you expect from the training?
In the sessions you get acquainted with different attention exercises. You learn how to apply mindfulness when dealing with stressful or overwhelming situations. In the training you gain insight into your (automatic) thought and behavior patterns, you learn to adopt an open and friendly attitude towards yourself and others, to distance yourself from (awkward / unpleasant) thoughts and emotions and, through embracing an open attitude, becoming more effective in making more conscious choices. You learn practical exercises applicable in home and work situations to center yourself.
